Women's Fund March 2010 Update
Hello, Friends of the Women's Fund!
Welcome to the monthly e-update of the Women's Fund of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation. Many things are happening with the Women's Fund in 2010 ... the 10th anniversary of the Women's Fund and the 50th anniversary of the Foundation!
• Endowment Reaches Half-Million Mark
Thanks to year-end contributions and the market uptick, the Women's Fund endowment reached the half-million-dollar mark at the end of 2009! What an exciting milestone; we started in 2000, and we are now halfway toward our goal of building a million-dollar endowment to improve lives in the community! (With grant distributions based on a percentage of our endowment, our current balance means we will have about $15,000 to grant out this year.)
Thank you for your past and ongoing support of the Women's Fund, and please continue to remember the Women's Fund in your giving. Our fund raising manager, Pat Jorgensen, continues to work to connect with potential and past donors; Pat is now seeking people who are willing to give $1,000 each toward endowment. • Save the Dates! Special Events for the Women's Fund, FMAF Anniversaries
Mark your calendar! Our signature event, Philanthropy by Design, will be held Thursday evening, May 6. This will be an extra-special event, featuring an opportunity to honor our founders, and of course, the chance to bid on silent auction items ranging from fine artwork to unique experiences - all in the wonderful Northern Home atmosphere, and all benefiting the Women's Fund endowment! We will have tickets available online this year (as well as at the door) and will be e-mailing you a link.
Also, don't miss celebrating the 50th anniversary of the F-M Area Foundation on Tuesday, April 27. The 10th anniversary of the Women's Fund endowment will be featured within the event, so watch for more information!
• "35 Under 35" Teaches Young Women Leadership Skills
The Women's Fund was one of the key collaborative groups that developed and supports "35 Under 35," a six-session leadership program for women under age 35. This program is now in its second year. In addition to providing research and helping develop the program, the Women's Fund granted several scholarships in 2009 and 2010. The Women's Fund will be hosts for this year's final session and graduation in June.
• Women's Fund Leadership Board
Jill Wilkey has begun her first year as co-chair of the Women's Fund; Karen Stensrud is in her second year. In addition, our 2010 leadership board comprises Becky Bakke, past chair/secretary; Sheri Gronhovd Schrock, finance; Jill Wilkey, member at large; Debbie Coston, fund-raising events; Gail Benson, programs; Janet Drechsel, research; Lisa Schwinden, grants; and Harriette McCaul, donor relations. Steve Guerber and Cher Hersrud are liaisons from the F-M Area Foundation staff, and Sandy Korbel is the F-M Area Foundation board liaison. We are currently recruiting a publicity committee chair who would help coordinate materials and messages for upcoming events. If you are interested, please contact us!

The mission of the Women's Fund of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation is to improve and impact the quality of life for all people by enriching the lives of women and girls in the Fargo-Moorhead area communities. We continue to build our endowment fund, with the goal of raising $1 million or more to be able to support programs "now and forever" that benefit women and girls. Thank you for your past gifts of time, talent and money and for continuing to be our "ambassadors" in the community for the Women's Fund!
