                                            Executive Director


The Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation (FMAF) seeks an individual with the experience, energy and vision to serve as Executive Director.  Established in 1960, the FMAF is North Dakota’s oldest and largest community foundation. It serves Cass County, North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota with assets exceeding $50 million held in more than 200 separate component funds.  In 2007, the Foundation distributed more than $3 million to non-profit institutions to support human services, arts, education and scholarships, civic improvement, churches and the environment.

The mission of the F-M Area Foundation is to enrich the quality of life of the people of this area by encouraging philanthropy, assessing and responding to community needs, providing flexibility for donors with varied interests and giving capacities, and serving as a resource and catalyst for other organizations.

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation is a community trust governed by a 17 member board that includes appointees of the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, the North Dakota Federal Courts, and three higher education institutions in addition to representatives of seven local financial institutions who serve as trustees to direct the fiscal and investment policy of the Foundation.

The ideal candidate possesses a firm understanding of the field of philanthropy, five years of supervisory management experience and a minimum of five years of leadership experience within non-profit, philanthropic, academic, business or government sectors.  Further, the preferred candidate demonstrates the following leadership skills:  a) engaging key members of the community to both lead and participate in community collaborations toward broad-reaching goals, b) building and maintaining donor relations, and c) developing and working with a governing board.  A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required, and an advanced degree is preferred.  The Executive Director will have the opportunity to listen to emerging community needs, define new goals, and lead the staff and board in expanding the Foundation’s service to donors and the community.
