2006 CommUNITY Event

The Fargo-Moorhead Area Foundation's third annual Celebration of CommUNITY, held at the Holiday Inn, was an evening of inspiration and vision.  The evening provided a fitting celebration of the group's commitment to making a lasting difference by building stronger communities for tomorrow in Cass County, North Dakota, and Clay County, Minnesota.

As part of the 2006 celebration, the Foundation honored three community servant leaders as recipients of both the prestigious Arthur W. Cupler Award and the ECHO (Everyone Can Help Out) Awards.

The prestigious Arthur W. Cupler Award was awarded to North Dakota Senator Tim Mathern in honor of his lifetime commitment to making a critical difference in our community. Arthur W. Cupler was one of the forwarding thinking founders of the FM Area Foundation whose vision and principals left a lasting legacy.

ECHO Awards were bestowed upon former Moorhead city council woman Mary Davies, and Chet Leversen, one of United Blood Services most dedicated donors, in order to celebrate their commitment to our communities.  ECHO award winners, whose efforts often go unnoticed, are deeply invested in building social capital.
The Foundation proudly extends congratulations to Mary Davies, Chet Leverson and Tim Mathern on their achievements.

Founded in 1960, the Foundation currently has over $41 million in assets under management and is looking to grow its giving capacity as it approaches its 50th anniversary.  Averaging $1.5 million in grants and scholarships annually, the Foundation is an important part of the communities we call home.
